Beef and Red Wine in a Slow Cooker

Cubed steak cooked slowly in a rich red wine and mushroom sauce produce a rich aroma that makes the mouth water.

Ingredients

  • 1 x 2 lb / 1 kg blade steak, cut into 5 cm / 2 inch cubes

  • 2 tsp / 10 ml beef stock powder

  • ½ cup / 125 ml boiling water

  • 1 x 10 oz / 280 ml tin of cream of mushroom soup

  • 10 oz / 280 ml can of mushroom pieces or freshly chopped.

  • 1 pkt French onion soup mix

  • ½ – 1 cup / 125 ml – 250 ml cup of red wine.

Cooking steps

  • Place beef cubes into a 6 L (6.5 quarts) slow cooker.
  • Mix boiling water and beef stock powder in a large bowl.
  • Add soup, mushroom pieces, soup mix, and wine; stir.
  • Pour the mixture over the beef cubes.
  • Cover and cook on Low for 7-9 hours or on High for 3 ½ – 4 ½ hours.
  • Serve with rice, pasta, or mashed potato.
