Beef Stroganoff II in a Slow Cooker

Tender strips of beef cooked slowly in a rich mixtures of spices, light sour cream and mushrooms. A great beef recipe for all.

This is a more advanced Beef Stroganoff recipe compared to the original Simple Beef Stroganoff recipe.

Ingredients

  • Beef mixture
  • 1/3 cup / 75 ml flour

  • 1 tsp / 5 ml salt

  • ¼ tsp / 1 ml pepper

  • ½ tsp / 2 ml paprika

  • 2 lbs / 900 g beef round steak, cut into 12 mm ( ½ inch) thick strips

  • Sauce mixture
  • 1 ½ cups / 375 ml chopped onion

  • ¼ tsp / 1 ml garlic powder

  • 14 oz / 400 ml canned tomatoes with juice

  • ¼ cup / 60 ml ketchup / tomato sauce

  • 2 tsp / 10ml beef stock powder

  • 2 tbsp / 30 ml sherry

  • 2 cups / 500 ml sliced fresh mushrooms

  • Final ingredients
  • 1 cup / 250 ml Light sour cream

Cooking steps

  • Combine flour, salt, pepper, and paprika (beef mixture) in a plastic bag (such as a large freezer bag).
  • Add a few strips of steak at a time to the bag and shake to coat.
  • Place coated steak in a 3.5 litre (3 ½ quart) slow cooker.
  • Mix the next 7 ingredients (sauce mixture) in a bowl.
  • Pour the sauce mixture over the steak.
  • Cover and cook on Low for 7-9 hours or on High for 3 ½ to 4 ½ hours.
  • Stir in sour cream during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • Serve with rice or noodles.
