Chilli Beef Stew in a Slow Cooker

The amount of spices can be varied according to taste in this chilli beef recipe. By using the slow cooker method the spices combine with the beef to produce a complex aroma and succulent pieces of tender meat.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds/ 700 g beef round steak, cut ¼ inch/ 0.5 cm thick

  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine

  • 1 small clove garlic, crushed in a garlic press

  • 2 teaspoons instant minced onion

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • few grains cayenne pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder

  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground celery seed

  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard

  • ½ cup strong beef broth

Cooking steps

  • Cut steak into 2 x ½ strips
  • Brown the steak in butter in a large skillet.
  • Turn browned meat into an electric cooker and add remaining ingredients, stir.
  • Cover and cook on Low 6 – 8 hours.
  • Serve on Hot fluffy rice.
