A tasty hamburger casserole recipe cooked slowly in a crock pot allows time for a rich complex mixture of flavours to develop.

Hamburger Casserole in a Slow Cooker

1 ½ lbs / 700 g lean beef mince
- Base ingredients
3 medium potatoes, cubed
1 medium onion, thinly diced
3 medium carrots, thinly sliced
1 celery stalk, thinly diced
10 oz / 300 g frozen peas
1 tsp / 5 ml salt
¼ tsp / 1 ml pepper
- Sauce ingredients
10 oz / 280 ml tomato soup
2 tsp / 10 ml beef stock powder
½ cup / 125 ml water
Cooking steps
- Fry the beef mince in frying pan until browned.
- Drain off the beef well, then add to a 3.5 L ( 3 ½ quart) slow cooker.
- Add the 7 “Base ingredients” to the slow cooker, then stir.
- Mix the soup, stock powder, and water (Sauce ingredients) in a bowl, then add to the slow cooker.
- Stir then cover.
- Cook on Low for 8 – 10 hours or on High for 4 – 5 hours.
