Spicy Pasta Sauce in a Slow Cooker

Serve this spicy chili beef sauce over pasta of your choice.

What I love most about this spicy pasta sauce is how easy it is to make, and it’s full of flavour!

If you’re new to cooking you’ll appreciate how easy it is to chuck all the ingredients into your slow cooker and let it work it’s magic!

Makes 5 ¼ cups.

Ingredients

  • Base sauce ingredients
  • 19 oz / 540 ml Canned diced tomatoes

  • ¼ cup / 60 ml ketchup/ bottled tomato sauce

  • 10 oz / 280 ml canned sliced mushrooms, drained

  • 1/3 cup / 75 ml chopped green capsicum

  • 1 ½ tbsp / 25 ml lemon juice

  • ¾ tsp / 4 ml dried oregano

  • ½ tsp / 2 ml dried basil

  • 1 bay leaf

  • 2 tsp / 10 ml chilli powder

  • ¼ tsp / 1 ml garlic powder

  • 1 tsp / 5 ml sugar

  • 1 ½ tsp / 7 ml salt

  • ¼ tsp / 1 ml pepper

  • Beef & onions
  • 1 lb / 450 g lean beef mince

  • 1 cup / 250 ml chopped onion

Cooking steps

  • Combine the first 13 ingredients (Base sauce ingredients) in your slow cooker.
  • Fry beef mince and onion in fry pan until beef is brown, then drain well.
  • Add to slow cooker. Stir. Cover.
  • Cook on Low for 6 – 7 hours or on High for 3 – 3 ½ hours.
  • Discard the bay leaf before serving.
